Sheep are raised for fleece (wool), meat and milk. Sheep are able to see behind themselves without turning their heads, but they cannot judge depth well. Sheep are usually categorized by the type of their wool, which varies from fine to long wool. Their coats are woolly and can vary in color. When the wool on a sheep is removed, it is called shearing and this occurs usually once a year, usually in the spring, to prepare them for the hot summer months. Sometimes sheep are very woolly and in those cases they need to be shorn twice per year.
