EDUCATION

In 2015, thanks to Battat’s generous support, Free The Children's WE Villages program has broken ground on 2 new school blocks which will ensure that 4 new classrooms are complete by the next academic year! Education has such a strong foundation within the community and since the inception of WE Villages' partnership with Manac (2012), the number of students in regular attendance has increased from 120 to 700! This has been accomplished through holding separate morning and afternoon sessions to ensure every student has access to a quality education.

WE Villages is currently assessing the potential for a kitchen, playground, signage, and furnishings.

CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

The completed well continues to operate perfectly and provides the entire community with regular access to clean water. This has truly had tremendous impacts towards improving community health as the rate of waterborne illness rapidly declines. WE Villages is currently assessing the potential for a reservoir and eaves system as well as for latrines (12 plus handwashing stations).

HEALTH

Within the coming month, the community of Manac will be hosting a mobile medical clinic. The clinic will bring a team of doctors into Manac to consult and provide medical care within the community and will utilize the school to further support community health initiatives and programming.

ALTERNATIVE INCOME AND LIVELIHOOD

WE Villages’ alternative income programming has begun in Haiti in the community of Marialapa, which focuses on the establishment of solidarity groups which take part in animal husbandry projects around goats and receive extensive supplementary training. With enthusiastic support for this programming, WE Villages' will be looking to expand this programming in Manac within the coming month.

AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY

The community is continuing to work on its plans for a school garden, which will provide fresh vegetables to supplement the school lunches.
